Comments:

At one time, I had interest in both mechanical engineering and architecture. But, after attending one semester at UTC and my involvement with the Brothers at the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, I discovered that 2 years of additional, mandatory classes was a gross waste of time, which I felt, was more or less an extension of high school. On the other hand, involvement with fraternity members introduced me to society in general and really "opened my eyes", in the epiphany that all people in snobby, self-indulgent 'cliques'... learned that the world didn't "revolve" around them, and if a broader inclusion of humanity wasn't realized and accepted as a prerequisite into the 'real world'... then the harsh reality of exclusion would be the end result. My fraternal involvement was teaching me valuable social skills.
After one semester in Chattanooga, I took 2 years "off" to both learn the family business and become more acquainted in social situations, with the observance of other's practical applications in everyday life's activities, as the "theme" of my budding interest. In 1974, I attended MTSU and finished my "studies in humanity" through involvement in the Kappa Sigma fraternity, while taking some business and philosophy classes, as well.
After another few years of "hodge-podge", I started a business with philanthropic goals set in my journey through life. I am both happy and successful at this point in my life and plan on achieving more lofty ideals which provide me with a more satisfying feeling, than just making monetary gain, which I believe to be the real meaning of my existance (and most others).

School Story:

I (and others, including Keith Fults) got involved in procurring the 30foot± Christmas tree for the CHS auditorium. There is a picture of it in the annual... Keith Fults' facial profile can be seen in the right hand side of the photo.
I will add a different story every year; the funniest sparked me to write a non-fiction book and involves Col. Creed Bates. The book? "Which Side Is the Beach (on)", coming out in 2010. Now, back to the rest of this story...
Keith had a 'crush' on Cindy Fuller (as did I... and almost every other guy at City!). I found it very fitting and moving, that Cindy would be the first. to write about him on his memorial page. Thank you Cindy, on behalf of Keith, thank you.

Back in 1959, my father opened Skateland on 2 lane Access Road, catty corner from Dupont (alongside the bridge going to Amnicola Hwy.). Our 'Pro', Gloria Lane is 'launching' a DOUBLE AXLE on roller skates.
Back then, there wasn't much to 'do' in Chattanooga... drive-in theaters, the Capitol, Martin, Rogers, Tivoli and Liberty theaters were in their 'prime'; the Memorial auditorium was being built (theater vs. theatre is a question of 'semantics'; color vs. colour, etc.; the pronuction of the "Carribean" is argued, also; I always call live plays, opera, ballet, "theatre" vs. movies at the so & so "theater".
You call it!

Me at the 'helm' of the massive stereo and light show (could have given Sudio 54 in New York City... a 'run' for the money!) at Skateland in the 'roller disco' era of the 1970's; When we would shut down at night, I'd go to: Brass Register (1st), then Yesterday's (I was at the 'last call' and bought a lot of the interior goodies, including the 9' stained glass entry doors, then built and opened a "Yesterday's" on Monteagle Mtn.). Anway, after the Chattanooga bars closed in the early morning... I'd take a load of folks with me to go PARTY DOWN at Skateland! Burkett Rawlings made it to one of my many parties... did YOU ever come? All were more or less welcome. It's amazing that nobody ever got hurt as most were 'trashed'. Me? I was born on skates (I learned at age 5) and I would NEVER have a party there if I had more than 6 beers in the previous evening.

That's really my "best man" at my 1st wedding, John Coolidge, with his wife, Marie looking on. Bill Fehn looks as if he's catching some 'flak' from "Miss Vicki", a friend of mine from MTSU.

Constance Bush Russell. Why she married me... is beyond me.LOL! It must have been purely mercenary, as I certainly don't deserve her love. She's by best friend. My 'soulmate', my 'shrink', my 'confidant', my life, my love... Barry White said/sang it best: "My first, my last... my everything." Next March 23rd, 2010 will be our 25th as husband and wife. Where has the time gone?! Oh. The beard is a yearly ritual; it starts on Labor day and ends on my birthday: October 7th. It's how I gauge my progression to 'puberty'! LoL! I need room for more pix. Go to Facebook for more (BillRussell@Facebook.com) Caio!
